Wesley M. Giesecke, a partner of The Hay Legal Group PLLC , focuses his practice on title and
transactional representation in the areas of Energy, Oil & Gas and Real Estate.
Mr. Giesecke has examined title and rendered lease acquisition title opinions, original
drilling title opinions, division order title opinions and supplemental title opinions in
numerous counties throughout West, South and North Texas, and has experience in all
major areas of interest, including the Permian Basin, Cline Shale, Barnett Shale and
Eagle Ford plays. He examines title in-office but also travels to county courthouses to
perform stand-up title examinations when time and land costs are critical, and he is very
familiar with County Clerk filing and indexing systems. Mr. Giesecke also drafts and
negotiates oil and gas leases, lease options, and operating agreements that reflect each
client’s specific needs and concerns. Mr. Giesecke prepares assignments, conveyance
documents, amendments and curative instruments that facilitate the timely prosecution
of drilling projects and correctly document all transfers of interest. In addition to his
transactional practice, Mr. Giesecke has successfully represented clients in energy and
real estate related litigation, including ownership challenges and operations disputes.
Mr. Giesecke’s also devotes a large part of his practice to helping real estate
professionals, financial institutions, homebuilders, developers and landowners navigate
complex legal issues surrounding real estate. Mr. Giesecke provides guidance and
expertise in all areas of real estate law and can guide transactions from the moment a
client makes the decision to buy or sell to the closing of the deal. Mr. Giesecke also
prepares loan documents and conveyance instruments for several financial institutions, as
well as title examinations and opinions.
Mr. Giesecke received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary’s University, where he
served on the Student Bar Association and as President of the St. Mary’s chapter of Phi
Alpha Delta legal fraternity. Before joining Hay Group, he specialized in oil and gas title
examination at a San Antonio law firm and practiced with Gossett, Harrison, Millican &
Stipanovic, P.C. in San Angelo, Texas. Born and raised in Austin, Mr. Giesecke practices
in Hay Group’s San Angelo and Austin offices.
